SOMERSET A 47-year-old Fall River man wanted on four arrest warrants was taken into custody this week when officers served a search warrant for a room at the Riverview Inn & Suites in Somerset, police said.

Damian Gouse was arrested by U.S. deputy marshals and Somerset patrol officers and detectives "without further incident," the Somerset Police Department said in a Facebook post Thursday. The warrants include charges of stalking, assault and battery on a family or household member, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

How police found him

A deputy U.S. marshal contacted the Somerset Police Detective Division on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and said Gouse was believed to be staying at a local hotel, according to the post. Detectives watched a potential location and, based on that investigation, established probable cause to believe he was inside a specific room at the Riverview Inn & Suites, the department said.

Police asked for and received a search warrant for the room "in an effort to locate the wanted individual," the post said. Deputy marshals, patrol officers and detectives carried it out and took him into custody during the operation.

What the four warrants list

The department listed the charges warrant by warrant. The first lists stalking, assault and battery on a family or household member, and malicious damage to a motor vehicle. The second lists assault and battery on a family or household member.

The third lists two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding. The fourth lists failure to stop for police, operating with a suspended license and operating with a suspended registration.

A warrant can be issued on a new charge or in an older court case, for example after a missed court date. The post did not say which kind each of the four is. On any charge still pending, Gouse is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Somerset police did not answer questions by Thursday's deadline.

The post named no one else. Anyone affected by domestic violence can reach SafeLink, Massachusetts' 24-hour hotline, at 877-785-2020.
