Playoff football tonight: Fairhaven hosts Case, Old Rochester hosts Bay Path and Apponequet plays at Foxborough

Apponequet kicks off at Foxborough at 6 p.m., Fairhaven hosts Case at 6:30 p.m. and Old Rochester hosts Bay Path at 7 p.m. Greater New Bedford plays at Bishop Stang at 6 p.m. in a game outside the tournament.

Four South Coast football teams open the MIAA state tournament in three games tonight, Thursday, Nov. 5, a day earlier than first listed. Unbeaten Apponequet plays at Foxborough at 6 p.m., unbeaten Fairhaven hosts Case of Swansea at 6:30 p.m., and Old Rochester hosts Bay Path RVT at 7 p.m., according to the MIAA's brackets and the schedules the schools post.

All three games are in the Round of 16, at the higher seed's field. MIAA tournament tickets are sold online only, through GoFan, and a Round of 16 football ticket costs $9.40, fees included, by the MIAA's price list.

Tickets for all three games are sold through the MIAA's GoFan page.

Watch: the NFHS Network lists a stream of Case at Fairhaven at 6:30 p.m. It is a subscription service. On Thursday morning, Old Rochester's NFHS Network page still carried a game teaser for Bay Path under the old date, Friday, Nov. 6.

What is at stake

Fairhaven and Case meet for the second time this season. Fairhaven won 45-37 at home on Oct. 16, the closest game of its 8-0 regular season, by the results the schools post. Case comes in off a 41-14 win at Sharon on Oct. 30. The winner plays the winner of No. 3 Abington and No. 14 Wilmington, who also meet tonight, at 7 p.m. at Memorial Field.

The Old Rochester and Bay Path winner moves on to face No. 2 Hudson or No. 15 Bishop Fenwick, who play tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Hudson. Old Rochester beat Bishop Fenwick 53-18 on Oct. 16.

Apponequet's closest game of the regular season was its opener, a 21-13 win at Middleborough on Sept. 11. Foxborough, the team it visits tonight, handed Old Rochester its only loss, 35-14, on Oct. 2. The Apponequet and Foxborough winner meets No. 2 Gloucester or No. 15 Blackstone Valley RVT, who play Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Gloucester.

Also tonight, and Friday

Greater New Bedford plays at Bishop Stang at 6 p.m. at Hugh Carney Stadium in Dartmouth, a game outside the tournament that moved up from Friday. Plymouth South, seeded 11th in Division 3 at 3-5, also starts its tournament tonight, at No. 6 North Attleborough (5-2) at 6 p.m. at North Attleboro High School.

No. 12 New Bedford (7-1) opens its Division 1 tournament run Friday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at No. 5 Springfield Central's Berte Field. Durfee plays at Newton North at 6 p.m. Friday, a kickoff moved from 4:30 p.m. Also Friday, Old Colony plays at Martha's Vineyard at 5:30 p.m. and Diman plays at Somerset Berkley at 6:30 p.m.
