Route 140 south and a Route 24 ramp close overnight Oct. 29 in Taunton; more roadwork set across the South Coast
Taunton drivers also face daytime lane closures on Route 24, Route 140 and Route 79 Thursday and Friday, and overnight work on I-195 between Somerset and Fall River starts Nov. 4.
SOUTH COAST Route 140 southbound in Taunton closes overnight Thursday, Oct. 29, between Route 44 and Exit 19, and so does the Route 24 southbound exit ramp to Route 140 at Exit 17. MassDOT scheduled both closures for 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights, with lane closures on Route 24 southbound between Exit 20 (Route 44) and Exit 16 over the same hours and an 11-foot width limit.
MassDOT also has roadwork scheduled across the region for the rest of this week and into next, including daytime lane closures in Swansea and Somerset, an overnight closure of Davol Street in Fall River on Sunday and night work on I-195 between Somerset and Fall River that starts Nov. 4.
Taunton and the Route 24 corridor
Daytime work picks up Thursday and Friday, when Route 24 has lane closures southbound between Exit 20 (Route 44) and Exit 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and northbound between Exit 16 and Exit 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both with an 11-foot width limit. Route 140 northbound has lane closures between Exit 16 (Route 79) and Exit 20 (Route 24) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Route 79 northbound has lane closures between Route 140 in Taunton and Route 18 in Lakeville from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days, with a 10-foot width limit. Bay Street southbound in Taunton has roadwork from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, with an 11-foot width limit.
On I-495 southbound, lanes close Thursday night between Route 123 in Norton and Route 138 in Taunton from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., and between Exit 25 in Taunton and Route 104 in Raynham from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Next week, MassDOT has nighttime lane closures on Route 24 southbound between Exit 22 (I-495) in Raynham and Exit 17 (Route 140) in Taunton starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, running to 4 a.m., with a 12-foot width limit.
Fall River, Somerset, Swansea and Rehoboth
Davol Street southbound in Fall River, listed by MassDOT as Central Street and Davol Street, closes overnight starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, until 5 a.m. Monday. Route 79 northbound has lane closures between Route 138 and Exit 7 (Route 24) from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m., with a 12-foot width limit.
On I-195 westbound, intermittent lane closures run in Swansea between Exit 10 (Route 103) and Exit 8 (Route 6) from 7 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m., and over the same hours westbound between Exit 11 (Route 138) and Route 114A. Overnight lane closures between Exit 10 (Route 103) and Exit 13 in Fall River begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, with more nights listed for Thursday, Nov. 5, Sunday, Nov. 8, and Monday, Nov. 9, each from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
In Swansea, Route 6 has intermittent lane closures Thursday and Friday in several stretches between Route 136 and Route 103, mostly from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Route 118 southbound between Route 44 and Route 6 has lane closures over the same hours, Route 136 between the Rhode Island line and I-195 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Gardners Neck Road has alternating one-lane traffic from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In Somerset, Route 6 westbound between Route 138 and Route 118 has roadwork from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and Route 138 southbound between Route 44 and Route 103 has work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an 11-foot width limit. In Rehoboth, Route 44 runs with alternating traffic in both directions between Route 114A and Route 118 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday and Friday nights.
New Bedford, Fairhaven, Marion and Wareham
Route 18 southbound in New Bedford has lane closures between Route 105 and Route 6 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. In Fairhaven, Route 6 has nighttime lane closures in both directions between Route 18 and Route 240 starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, running to 5 a.m.
In Marion, Route 6 has lane closures in both directions between Route 105 and Route 25 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and again each weekday starting Monday, Nov. 2, with a 12-foot width limit. I-195 has roadwork Friday between Exit 35 (Route 105) in Marion and Route 28 in Wareham, eastbound from 9 a.m. to noon and westbound from noon to 4 p.m. Route 25 in Wareham has nighttime lane closures in both directions from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m.
On Marion's own streets, the town's paving contractor, Indus, is crack sealing Ridgewood Lane, School Street, Joanne Drive and Jenna Drive on Thursday, Oct. 29, starting no earlier than 7 a.m. and finishing around 3 p.m. The town asks drivers not to park on those roads during the work and to expect delays. Questions go to the Marion Department of Public Works at 508-748-3540, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The town says the schedule can change because of weather and other conditions it cannot foresee.

Every state highway fact comes from MassDOT's own roadwork notices on Mass511, which we read on Oct. 28 at 11:09 p.m. and again at 11:36 p.m. and kept with their event numbers; road names, exits and town labels are printed as the notices give them. The Marion street work comes from the Town of Marion's Oct. 28 update on its pavement project. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar: Oct. 29 is a Thursday, Nov. 1 a Sunday, Nov. 2 a Monday, Nov. 4 a Wednesday, Nov. 5 a Thursday, Nov. 8 a Sunday and Nov. 9 a Monday. We left out long-term work listed for more than six months and work outside our towns. MassDOT listings change during the day; the story reflects what was posted when we read it.
