Wednesday brought seven of the arrests. Two of them came on Sawyer Street three minutes apart, on the same two drug charges.

NEW BEDFORD New Bedford police listed 13 arrests in their daily arrest logs for Monday, Oct. 26, through Wednesday, Oct. 28, among them an early Monday arrest on Ashley Boulevard for operating under the influence and three arrests late Wednesday night on charges of possessing a Class B drug with intent to distribute. Eight of the 13 were arrests on warrants alone.

Wednesday's log was the busiest of the three, with seven arrests, while Monday's listed four and Tuesday's listed two.

Each entry below gives the time, street and charges as the log lists them, with the department's abbreviations spelled out. The street is the arrest location in the log, which is not always where the person lives.

Monday, Oct. 26

Tuesday, Oct. 27

Wednesday, Oct. 28

By the numbers

The 13 entries carry 25 charges in all when each warrant is counted, with eight on Monday, five on Tuesday and 12 on Wednesday. The eight warrant entries list the warrant itself as the offense and account for 15 warrant counts, including Tuesday's Union Street arrest on four warrants and arrests on three warrants each on Sawyer Street on Monday and Robeson Street on Wednesday.

Drug charges appear in four entries: the Monday OUI arrest, which also lists a Class B possession count, and the three late Wednesday arrests. The last of those, on Ashley Boulevard 11 minutes after the second Sawyer Street arrest, adds a subsequent offense count under Chapter 94C, Section 32A(b), of the General Laws.

Monday's 4:13 a.m. arrest on Ashley Boulevard, on a misdemeanor breaking and entering charge, is the only property charge in the three logs.

One entry is not marked as approved in the logs: Tuesday's 12:36 p.m. arrest on Elm Street. The logs list every case as open. None of the 13 is marked as a juvenile or domestic case, and state law puts those arrests in a separate log, described below.

About this log

State law requires every police department to keep a daily log of responses to complaints, reported crimes and arrests, including the names and addresses of people arrested and the charges, and makes those entries public records. Responses to reports of domestic violence, rape or sexual assault, arrests for assault, assault and battery or a protective order violation against a family or household member, arrests of anyone under 18, and entries about a person with a disability who uses a wheelchair, is bedridden or needs a mobility device go in a separate log that is not public, under Chapter 41, Section 98F. South Coast 360 prints less than the log does and leaves out names, house numbers, home addresses and hometowns.

The department's logs for Friday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 25, listed 22 arrests, including two on animal cruelty charges (Police log, Oct. 23 to 25). For what can happen to a driver's license after an OUI arrest, see our explainer on license suspensions after an OUI arrest in Massachusetts.

An arrest is not a conviction. Everyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Notes

Every entry comes from the New Bedford Police Department's daily arrest logs for Oct. 26, 27 and 28, linked in the sources and read Thursday evening, Oct. 29. The Monday log is a scanned document, so each entry was read by eye; charges are given in plain wording. The log rules come from the text of state law on the Legislature's website. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar. We leave out names, house numbers, home addresses, hometowns and warrant numbers. Not heard: this digest names no one, so no one was asked for comment.
