ACUSHNET Acushnet's Office of Emergency Management is looking for volunteers 18 and older from around the South Coast, according to a town notice posted Oct. 15. No experience is needed, and the office provides training, the notice says.
Volunteers help the town before, during and after emergencies, and at community events during the year. The roles listed include disaster response, communications and logistics, public information and outreach, and running emergency shelters.
People can sign up with an online membership form linked from the office's Become a Member page on the town website. Questions go to the Office of Emergency Management at 508-998-0295, ext. 205, according to the notice. The Become a Member page also lists membership@acushnetema.com for questions.
Acushnet Fire & EMS posted a separate notice the same day saying it is seeking call firefighter candidates for future academy classes in 2027. Recruits must be 18 to 40 years old and hold a high school diploma, the notice says. It directs people to the fire chief at 508-998-0250.
The Police Department also posted Oct. 15 that it is hiring lateral transfers. The notice says applicants must be full-time, academy-trained officers certified by the state Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, and asks them to send a letter of interest and resume to the police chief.
