Updated Oct. 18 with more detail.

Mattapoisett's Select Board and Finance Committee will vote Tuesday, Oct. 20, on what they recommend voters do with each article at the Nov. 9 Special Town Meeting, according to the board's posted agenda. As of Oct. 18 we found no warrant for the meeting on the town website, and no agenda packet is posted with the Oct. 20 agenda.

The meeting opens at 6:30 p.m. in the training room at the fire station, 62 County Road. It is also on Zoom, with the meeting ID and passcode printed on the agenda.

What's on Tuesday's agenda

The agenda's only action item reads: "Meet with the Finance Committee: Discuss and Vote Recommendations for the Special Town Meeting Warrant Articles (for Meeting Scheduled November 9th)." It does not list the articles or their costs.

A public hearing at 6:35 p.m. is titled "Eversource Transmission Line Road Crossing." The agenda does not say which road or where the line would run. The board will also discuss a "draft recording policy for boards/committees appointed by the Select Board," an item carried over from its Oct. 13 agenda. On Sept. 22, the board's agenda listed a discussion of "Improved Transparency Methods for Meetings."

How we got here

The board's Sept. 22 agenda listed a vote "to open the Meeting Warrant for the Special Town Meeting being held on November 9, 2026." Its Oct. 13 agenda listed a vote "to close the Special Town Meeting Warrant for November 9, 2026." We found no posted minutes of either meeting.

The Oct. 13 agenda also scheduled a "Town Hall Space Needs Study Presentation," and the Capital Planning Committee posted a joint session with the board that night to discuss the study. Neither agenda says whether the study is tied to a Nov. 9 article.

Fall special meetings are common in Mattapoisett. "Typically, Special Town Meetings have been called by the Select Board in the fall," the town's Town Meeting Info page says. The most recent fall warrant on the Town Clerk's page is from Nov. 6, 2023.

What happens next

Town bylaws require "that the Warrant for a Special Town Meeting be posted at least 14 days prior to the date of the Meeting," according to the Town Meeting Info page. For Nov. 9, that is Monday, Oct. 26. The warrant is posted on the town website, at the Town Offices and at the post office, the page says.

Mattapoisett has open town meeting, so any registered Mattapoisett voter may vote on Nov. 9. The page describes the Finance Committee as the body "responsible for analyzing the fiscal impact of proposed warrant articles." The town has not posted a time or place for the Nov. 9 meeting.

How to weigh in

Residents can attend Tuesday in person or on Zoom. Select Board member Nicole Doyon Lynch holds office hours Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Marine Room at the Mattapoisett Library, a town notice says. The Finance Committee's page lists Town Administrator Michael Lorenco at 508-758-4100, ext. 4. Questions about town meeting procedure go to the moderator at MattapoisettModerator@gmail.com, the Town Meeting Info page says.

How we verified this

Every fact comes from four posted meeting agendas and four pages of the town website, listed below. We read them on Oct. 18. The agendas are scanned documents, so we read them from the page images. We searched the town site and its Agenda Center for the Nov. 9 warrant, an Oct. 20 packet and minutes of the Sept. 22 and Oct. 13 meetings and found none. We left out a hearing, an executive session item and other agenda lines that name private residents or job applicants. We checked each date, weekday and the 14-day posting date against a calendar. Not heard: no one was contacted. Questions for the town administrator are pending through our newsroom.
