Mattapoisett is looking for two residents to fill open volunteer seats: one on the Finance Committee and one on the Board of Library Trustees. The town put out the call on Wednesday.

Anyone interested in either role should contact Christine Richards at crichards@mattapoisett.gov.

"Serving on a town board/committee is a commitment," the town's announcement reads. "However, the time and effort involved is more than offset by the knowledge that you are providing a meaningful service to the community."

"Local government cannot function without dedicated volunteers that are willing to serve," the announcement continues. "In return, volunteers have the opportunity to work with other community members from different backgrounds and to directly influence and contribute to the quality of life we all enjoy."

The Finance Committee seat

The Finance Committee has seven members, chaired by Howard Colby Rottler. Alongside Rottler, the town lists Paul Amoruso, Brian Connelly, Kathleen Costello, Aaron C. Goldberg, Gary P. Johnson and Karen C. Keenan. The committee's agendas are available before its meetings and its minutes after they are approved.

The two seats are the only openings the town is advertising.

The Library Trustees seat

The Board of Library Trustees is made up of six members whose role is to oversee the library's policies, funds and administration. Each year, two members are elected to three-year terms.

The board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, 7 Barstow St. Its next regular meeting falls on Thursday, Nov. 19. Special meetings are posted as needed.

All of the board's meetings are open, and the public is invited to attend. Residents can also reach the trustees through the library at mfpl@sailsinc.org, or by writing to the board at the library's address.

What the work looks like

The trustees meet in the library's Marine Room, special meetings are posted as needed, and the town posts recordings of trustee meetings for anyone who wants to watch one before volunteering.

How to put your name in

The town asks interested residents to email Christine Richards at crichards@mattapoisett.gov and say which seat they have in mind. Both boards post their agendas ahead of meetings, so residents who want a look at the work before volunteering can sit in on a meeting first.

How we verified this

Every fact comes from the town's Oct. 21, 2026 posting and the town and library committee pages listed below, all read fresh Oct. 22, 2026, morning. The two quoted passages are the town's exact words from its announcement. Committee and board details (the seven Finance Committee members as listed, the chairman, six library trustees, three-year terms with two elected each year, the third-Thursday 4 p.m. meeting time, the Barstow Street address, open meetings, special meetings posted as needed, and the trustees' email) are as the town and library pages state them. The next regular trustees meeting, Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, is the third Thursday of November, checked against a calendar. The town page and the library page list different trustee officers, so no trustee officers are named. The Marine Room and the meeting recordings come from the town's trustees page. No outlet is a source for this story. Not heard: no one was contacted; the postings speak for themselves.
