The commission moved both precincts because of the recent closure of the Moose Home, according to a city news release posted Oct. 14. The changes take effect for the Nov. 3 state election. Polls across the city are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.

Early voting

In-person early voting runs Oct. 17 through Oct. 30 on the third floor of the New Bedford Main Public Library, 613 Pleasant St., the release said.

Register and vote by mail

The last day to register to vote is Saturday, Oct. 24.

Registered voters can ask for a mail-in ballot online or in person at the Elections Office, City Hall Room 114, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. Voters can also vote absentee in person at the office during business hours until noon Monday, Nov. 2.

Completed mail-in ballots can be dropped off at the office, left in the white drop boxes outside City Hall on Elm Street, next to the bus terminal, or mailed.

Voters unsure of their polling place or voting status can call the city's Board of Elections Commission at 508-979-1420.

How we verified this

Every fact comes from the city's Oct. 14 news release, listed below. We read it on the city's website on Oct. 17 and kept a dated copy. The release lists early voting hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. but does not say whether they apply on Saturdays and Sundays, so this story leaves the hours out; the Board of Elections Commission can give them. We recomputed every weekday by script and checked each claim against the release. A human editor approved the story. Not heard: no one was contacted.
