Pieces of railing and flooring were removed from the new footbridges at Plymouth's Kapell-Pinnacle Preserve, and the town and police are asking the public to help find who did it.

Town Manager Derek Brindisi, Police Chief Dana Flynn and David Gould, the town's director of energy and environment, made the request in a notice the town posted Thursday, Nov. 5. Gould's department found the damage Wednesday, Nov. 4, and the town believes it happened over the weekend or on Monday, Nov. 2, or Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The footbridges had been newly installed, and several pieces of their wooden railing and flooring were removed, according to the notice. A report has been filed with the Plymouth Police Department, the town said.

"The footbridges at the Kapell-Pinnacle Preserve were recently installed as part of our department's wetland restoration efforts, creating greater access to the perimeter walking trail," Gould said in the notice. "It is deeply disappointing to see a valuable community resource vandalized. We strongly encourage anyone who witnessed suspicious activity to come forward and assist in identifying those responsible."

How to help

Anyone with information, or anyone who saw suspicious activity at or near the footbridges, is asked to call Plymouth police at 508-830-4218, extension 15219, according to the town.

About the preserve

The Kapell-Pinnacle Preserve is a 51-acre property at 87 Rocky Pond Road in the pine barrens of west Plymouth, recently acquired by the town, according to the preserve's page on the town website. In spring 2026, the town finished a wetland restoration there, returning wetland function to cells that were once cranberry bogs.

A perimeter walking trail of about 1.25 miles circles the site on dirt paths and wooden bridges. The town's page says the trail uses two wood pedestrian crossings to give walkers a route around the site.

What happens next

The page says the property will continue to see active management as the wetland system takes root and revegetates, with hundreds of plantings slated for 2026 to restore the wetland areas and the pine barrens habitat that was removed when the land was farmed. That upland work is planned to include native pollinator habitat, shrubland and pine barrens species, the town says.

South Coast 360 will update this story as the town and police release more about the repairs and the investigation.
