TAUNTON Taunton residents can get rid of fall leaves, grass clippings and branches for free on the four Saturdays left in November at the City Convenience Center, 330 East Britannia St., the city announced.
The drop-off runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28, according to the notice the city posted Oct. 30. The free days are a partnership between Mayor Shaunna O'Connell and the Department of Public Works, the notice says. The first free Saturday is this weekend.
Residents normally pay to leave yard waste there. The city's posted Convenience Center rate sheet charges $2 for each 30-gallon paper yard waste bag or 32-gallon open barrel and $25 for each pickup truck or trailer load. A household that brings 10 bags on a free Saturday saves $20.
The rules
The city's notice sets three conditions. Bring proof that you live in Taunton, bring no commercial waste and do not come in a box truck. Questions go to the DPW at 508-821-1431.
The city's solid waste regulations define yard waste as tree trimmings, grass cuttings, leaves, bushes, hedges, weeds, dead trees, wood chips and shavings, and other waste from keeping up a home's yard. The free Saturday notice names leaves, grass clippings and branches. Limbs and brush of any size do not go in household trash under the same regulations.
Curbside pickup is still on
The Saturdays are in addition to the city's free curbside yard waste pickup the week of Monday, Nov. 16, the notice says. That collection falls on each home's regular trash day, according to the DPW's Solid Waste and Recycling page, and it is the last curbside yard waste week of 2026. The next one is the week of April 26, 2027.
For curbside pickup, set yard waste out in paper bags or barrels, never plastic bags, according to the city's 2026 to 2027 collection flyer. The city's regulations ask residents to put it at the curb, or within five feet of the curb or the road's edge, no earlier than collection day and by 7 a.m. Republic Services, the city's curbside contractor, does the collecting, and Christmas trees go out the week of Jan. 11, 2027.
Our Oct. 29 guide lists the leaf drop-off rules in Freetown, Marion, Rochester and Wareham.
Hours and contact
On a regular week, the Convenience Center is open Wednesday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the rate sheet says; it accepts cash, check, money order or credit card for paid items. The DPW office, 90 Ingell St., answers at 508-821-1431. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday until 7 p.m. and Friday until noon.

Notes
Every fact comes from the City of Taunton's own records: its Oct. 30 notice, the DPW Solid Waste and Recycling page, the Convenience Center rate sheet, the 2026 to 2027 curbside flyer and the city's solid waste regulations. We read them on the city's website on Nov. 5. The $20 savings is our arithmetic from the city's $2 bag fee. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar: Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2026 are Saturdays and Nov. 16 is a Monday. Not heard: the rate sheet is dated July 12, 2023, and we have not confirmed with the DPW that its regular hours and fees are unchanged.
