Interstate 195 loses lanes at night in Swansea, Westport and New Bedford starting Sunday, Nov. 8, with most of that work repeating each night through Thursday, MassDOT's roadwork listings show.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, Route 24 narrows in Fall River from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. for lane closures and a MassDOT structure inspection, with lanes also closing that night on I-195, I-495 and Route 79. In New Bedford, Route 18 and three I-195 ramps near the Route 18 interchange can still close overnight, as needed, through Sunday, Nov. 15.

Much of the daytime work skips Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day: the listings on Route 24 and Route 140 in Taunton name Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and most of the Route 6 listings leave Wednesday out. MassDOT lists no work this week on Route 88 in Westport, and nothing on Route 18 outside the New Bedford interchange project.

Sunday night, Nov. 8

Starting at 8 p.m., some lanes close on I-195 eastbound in Swansea between Route 136 and Exit 10 (Route 103), and on I-195 westbound between Exit 19 and Exit 14 (Route 24), a stretch MassDOT lists in Westport, until 4:30 a.m. Both closures repeat Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights over the same hours.

From 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., I-195 has lane closures in both directions between Exit 24 (Route 140) and Exit 27 in New Bedford, a stretch MassDOT's listing labels as running to Fairhaven. That work repeats Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, and the listing leaves out Wednesday night. Over the same hours Sunday, MassDOT lists night roadwork on I-195 eastbound between Exit 10 (Route 103) in Somerset and Exit 11 (Route 138) in Fall River, and it lists that stretch again Tuesday night. MassDOT's two listings for I-195 in both directions between Exit 10 and Exit 13 in Fall River start Monday night, though their schedule notes also name Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On I-495, some lanes close in both directions between Route 123 and Route 138, listed in Taunton, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights. In Wareham, Route 25 has lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the same five nights, westbound between Exit 10 (Route 28) and Exit 1 and eastbound between Exit 1 and Exit 3.

Monday, Nov. 9

Daytime lane closures return Monday on Route 24 in Taunton, southbound between Exit 20 (Route 44) and Exit 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and northbound between Exit 16 and Exit 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both with an 11-foot width limit. In the Route 24 and Route 140 interchange, the Route 24 southbound ramp to Route 140 at Exit 17 and the northbound ramp to Route 140 north at Exit 17B have roadwork from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an 11-foot limit, and Route 140 northbound has lane closures between Exit 16 (Route 79) and Exit 20 (Route 24) over the same hours. All of that Taunton work is listed for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Farther south on Route 24, the northbound ramp at Exit 8 to Industrial Park Road has roadwork with intermittent lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday only.

Monday night, I-195 has lane closures in both directions between Exit 10 (Route 103) near Somerset and Exit 13 in Fall River from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and MassDOT also lists night roadwork on I-195 westbound between Exit 12 (Route 81) in Fall River and Exit 10 from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. In Freetown, Route 24 southbound loses lanes between Exit 13 and Exit 10 from 8 to 10 p.m. Monday and again from midnight to 2 a.m. Tuesday, and Route 24 northbound loses lanes between Exit 10 and Exit 11 (Route 79) from 10 p.m. to midnight Monday and from 2 to 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Route 6 in Swansea has intermittent lane closures in both directions between Route 118 and Route 103 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, with a 12-foot width limit.

Route 6 and side routes, weekdays

In Swansea, Route 6 has lane closures in both directions between Route 136 and I-195 and between I-195 and Route 103 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and between Route 114A and I-195 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the same days. Between Route 118 and Route 103, Route 6 has daytime lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with a 12-foot limit. Route 136 has lane closures between the Rhode Island line and I-195 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, Route 118 southbound between Route 44 and Route 6 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, and Route 103 westbound between I-195 and the Rhode Island line has work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with an 11-foot limit.

In Somerset, Route 6 westbound between Route 138 and Route 118 has roadwork from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, and Route 138 southbound has work in town over the same hours with a 14-foot width limit. Route 138 southbound between Route 44 and Route 103 has work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Route 6 eastbound in Westport, between Route 88 and Route 177, has lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, with an 11-foot limit. Farther east in Dartmouth, Route 6 eastbound between Route 177 and Route 140 has lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with a 12-foot limit. In Marion, Route 6 has lane closures in both directions between Route 105 and Route 25 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the same four days, and MassDOT's longer listing for Route 6 from Route 105 in Marion to Route 25 in Wareham still shows some lanes closed for the next two months.

Route 138 northbound between Route 44 and Exit 22, listed in Raynham, has roadwork from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with an 11-foot limit. On I-495 northbound between Exit 27 and Exit 31 (Route 140), listed in Norton, lanes close intermittently from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. In Norton, Route 123 runs with alternating traffic between Route 118 and I-495 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with an 11-foot limit.

Tuesday, Nov. 10

The Sunday night closures on I-195 in Swansea, Westport and New Bedford, on I-495 near Taunton and on Route 25 in Wareham run again Tuesday night, and the I-195 eastbound work between Somerset and Fall River returns from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime work on Route 24 and Route 140 in Taunton and on Route 6 continues on its listed hours.

Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day

On the holiday, I-495 southbound between Exit 25 and Route 138, listed in Taunton, has intermittent lane closures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and I-495 northbound in Norton keeps its 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. closures Wednesday. The weekday listings that run Wednesday too are Route 6 in Swansea between Route 136 and Route 103 and between Route 114A and I-195, Route 136 and Route 118 southbound in Swansea, and Route 6 westbound and Route 138 southbound in Somerset. On the city side, Taunton's public works schedule says no municipal public works or contractor construction will take place Wednesday for Veterans Day, though the same schedule lists final paving of the Taunton High School parking lots that day.

Wednesday night, Route 79 northbound in Fall River loses lanes between Route 138 and Exit 7 (Route 24) from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., with a 12-foot width limit, and the same closure runs Thursday night. The I-195 closures in Swansea and Westport, I-495 near Taunton and Route 25 in Wareham also run Wednesday night, while the I-195 work in New Bedford is not listed Wednesday night.

Thursday, Nov. 12

Route 24 southbound has night lane closures between Exit 2 and the Rhode Island line in Fall River from 8:30 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, with a 12-foot width limit, MassDOT's listings show. The same night, MassDOT crews will inspect ancillary structures along Route 24 northbound and southbound between mile markers 0.1 and 1.5 in Fall River from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., with lane and shoulder closures as needed, according to a MassDOT advisory. MassDOT said at least one lane will stay open at all times, police details and signs will guide drivers, and the work should be done by Friday morning, weather permitting.

Earlier Thursday, I-195 has daytime roadwork in Marion and Wareham, eastbound between Exit 35 (Route 105) and Route 28 from 9 a.m. to noon and westbound between Route 28 and Exit 35 from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday night brings the last round of the week's I-195 lane closures in Swansea, Westport and New Bedford, along with I-495 near Taunton, Route 25 in Wareham, Route 6 in Swansea and Route 79 in Fall River.

Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14

MassDOT lists no night work in our area for Friday or Saturday night. Friday's daytime work matches Monday's on Route 24 and Route 140 in Taunton, on Route 138 in Raynham and Somerset and on Route 6 from Swansea to Marion, and the Route 6 listings in Westport and Dartmouth run Friday too. On Saturday, Route 123 in Norton between Route 118 and Route 140 runs with alternating traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an 11-foot limit, the same setup MassDOT lists there Monday, Thursday and Friday.

New Bedford: I-195 and Route 18, through Nov. 15

MassDOT's advisory for the I-195 and Route 18 interchange rehabilitation lets it close Route 18 in both directions from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., as needed, through Sunday, Nov. 15, along with the I-195 eastbound exit to Penniman Street (Exit 25), the Route 18 northbound ramp to I-195 eastbound and the I-195 westbound exit to Coggeshall Street (Exit 28). With Route 18 northbound closed, drivers turn right onto MacArthur Drive, left onto Herman Melville Boulevard and left onto Coggeshall Street, and southbound drivers take Coggeshall Street to Purchase Street, Hillman Street and MacArthur Drive. Drivers who find Exit 25 closed stay on I-195 to Exit 27 and take Belleville Avenue, Coggeshall Street and Mount Pleasant Street back to Penniman Street, and drivers who find Exit 28 closed continue west to Exit 24A, take Exit 2A toward Cape Cod and come back east to Exit 27. As of Saturday, MassDOT had not said which nights it will use. The street closures and the full detours are in SC360's Nov. 1 story on the rebuild.

MassDOT's look-ahead for the project through Nov. 15 lists nightly traffic setups, temporary single-lane closures, concrete deck work, paving and striping on I-195, and its advisory allows daytime lane closures on Route 18 in either direction from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., as needed. The I-195 westbound exit to Route 18 southbound and the westbound on-ramp from Route 18 stay closed until summer 2027, MassDOT said.

The Rhode Island side of I-195

In East Providence, up to two lanes of I-195 westbound close between Pawtucket Avenue and Broadway from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights for bridge maintenance, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation says. Between Broadway in East Providence and South Main Street in Providence westbound, and India Street and Broadway eastbound, the two right lanes close Sunday and Monday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for Potter Street Bridge demolition cleanup, and the two left lanes close from midnight to 5 a.m. Thursday and again from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

The I-195 eastbound off-ramps to Warren Avenue at Exit 1D and Exit 2C close from midnight to 5 a.m. Tuesday for testing of wrong-way driving detectors, with signed detours. I-195 between the Washington Bridge and Exit 1A in Providence has alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights, and the Washington Bridge itself keeps its three lanes in each direction on the eastbound span, where RIDOT tells drivers to expect delays. RIDOT's advisory lists no work this week on Route 24 in Tiverton.

Closures already announced

The Route 44 weekend morning work between Route 104 in Taunton and Route 24 in Raynham, from 5 to 10 a.m. Sunday, and Route 44 eastbound roadwork between Route 140 and Route 104, listed for about a month from Nov. 4, are in SC360's weekend roads story. The state of the Route 24 and Route 140 interchange rebuild is in SC360's Nov. 1 Taunton story, and the Scadding Street bridge in Taunton stays closed with its detour.

MassDOT and RIDOT revise these listings as the week goes on, and both say their schedules depend on the weather. The hours here are the ones they listed early Saturday, Nov. 7.
