Interstate 195 closes in both directions at the Taunton Avenue interchange in East Providence at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, for the Potter Street Bridge demolition, the one full highway shutdown on this weekend's listings.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation says lanes start closing at 9 p.m. Friday, some lanes reopen by 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and all lanes are due open by noon. RIDOT is telling drivers to find another route and stay off I-195 during the closure. The detours through Warren Avenue and Broadway are in SC360's story on the closure.

On the Massachusetts side, MassDOT lists no lane closures on I-195, I-495 or Route 24 in our area on Saturday or during the day Sunday. Its night lane closures come back Sunday evening on I-195 in Swansea, Westport, New Bedford and Fairhaven and on I-495 near Taunton, most of them running through Thursday night.

East Providence and the Washington Bridge

Three on-ramps to I-195 West close during the demolition, RIDOT's travel advisory says: Warren Avenue westbound at the East Shore Expressway, Pawtucket Avenue and Broadway. Drivers who usually pick up the highway in East Providence will need the signed local detours until the road reopens Saturday.

Once I-195 reopens, the Washington Bridge setup stays as it has been. RIDOT says bypass lanes for westbound traffic from East Providence to Providence remain open, with three lanes in each direction running on the eastbound bridge, and it tells drivers to expect delays.

Taunton and Raynham

Route 44 eastbound in Taunton has roadwork between Route 140 and Route 104, work MassDOT lists as starting Wednesday, Nov. 4, and lasting about a month. The listing gives no daily hours. Just east of there, between Route 104 and Route 24 in Raynham, Route 44 has roadwork in both directions from 5 to 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday night: I-195, I-495 and Route 25

I-195 eastbound in Swansea loses some lanes between Route 136 and Exit 10 (Route 103) from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., starting Sunday, Nov. 8, and continuing Monday through Thursday nights. Over the same hours and nights, I-195 westbound has lane closures between Exit 19 and Exit 14 (Route 24), a stretch MassDOT lists in Westport.

Between Exit 24 (Route 140) in New Bedford and Exit 27 in Fairhaven, I-195 has lane closures in both directions from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. MassDOT's listing leaves out Wednesday night, Nov. 11.

MassDOT also lists night roadwork on I-195 eastbound between Exit 10 (Route 103) in Somerset and Exit 11 (Route 138) in Fall River from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday and Tuesday nights. In Wareham, Route 25 has lane closures in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

On I-495, some lanes close at night in both directions between Route 123 and Route 138, a stretch MassDOT lists in Taunton, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

Route 6, Route 18 and Route 140

Route 6 between Route 105 in Marion and Route 25 in Wareham still has some lanes closed in both directions, and MassDOT's listing, last updated Tuesday, Nov. 3, says that will last for the next two months. The rest of this week's daytime lane closures on Route 6 in Swansea, Somerset, Fall River, Westport and Marion, on Route 18 southbound in New Bedford and on Route 140 northbound in Taunton were listed only through Friday afternoon. MassDOT has posted Route 6 lane closures again for Monday in Seekonk, Swansea, Somerset, Westport, Dartmouth and Marion, all between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Newly posted: Route 24 and Route 79 in Fall River

Route 24 southbound has night lane closures between Exit 2 and the Rhode Island line in Fall River from 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, to 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, with a 12-foot width limit, MassDOT's listings show.

MassDOT has also posted night lane closures on Route 79 northbound in Fall River between Route 138 and Exit 7 (Route 24), from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights, Nov. 11 and 12, with a 12-foot width limit.

Closures already announced

The Route 44 weekend mornings were first listed in SC360's roads story for the week of Nov. 2. In New Bedford, the I-195 westbound exit ramp to Route 18 South and the entrance ramp from Route 18 North stay closed for long-term roadwork, MassDOT's listings show. The Scadding Street bridge in Taunton stays closed with its detour, as described in SC360's Scadding Street story.

RIDOT says its closure schedule can change with the weather. The National Weather Service has a flood watch in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, as SC360's weather story reports.

MassDOT revises these listings as the week goes on. The hours here are the ones it had posted Friday, Nov. 6, at about 12:45 p.m.

Notes

Every fact comes from the agencies' own records: MassDOT's planned roadwork events on Mass511, which we read Nov. 6 between 11:17 and 11:24 a.m., checking each event's start time and keeping its event number; the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's travel advisories for Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, read Nov. 6 at 11:26 a.m.; and the National Weather Service's flood watch. Our copy desk read the Mass511 listings again at 12:45 p.m. and the RIDOT advisories at 12:44 p.m., added the events MassDOT had posted since the first read, and confirmed every time against them. Road names, exits and town labels are printed as the listings give them. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar: Nov. 3 is a Tuesday, Nov. 4 a Wednesday, Nov. 5 a Thursday, Nov. 6 a Friday, Nov. 7 a Saturday, Nov. 8 a Sunday, Nov. 9 a Monday, Nov. 11 a Wednesday, Nov. 12 a Thursday and Nov. 13 a Friday. Work outside our area, and closures already reported in our earlier stories, are left out or linked.
