SWANSEA Entertainment Luxury Cinemas began showing movies in Swansea on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 207 Swansea Mall Drive, opening what the company calls the first phase of its Swansea location, with 11 titles on the screen on opening day.
The theater announced the opening in a social media post Thursday morning. It said phase one means cleaning up and refreshing the space so it can get its doors open, and that phase two will bring upgraded reclining chairs and more improvements. The space last housed a Regal theater, which closed in late 2020, according to the Fall River Reporter.
What's playing
The opening-day lineup runs from a 12:20 p.m. encore of "Avengers: Endgame" to a 7:25 p.m. show of "Primetime." "Whalefall," "Street Fighter" and "Sense and Sensibility" each play three times, in the early afternoon, midafternoon and early evening. "The Social Reckoning," "Other Mommy," "Verity" and "Resident Evil" play twice, and "Heart of the Beast," "Forgotten Island," "Primetime" and the "Avengers" encore play once.
The schedule grows for the weekend. Saturday, Oct. 24, lists 14 titles, adding "Wicker," "Clayface" and "A Talent for Murder," all rated R, with the first show at 11:45 a.m. and the last at 9 p.m. "Forgotten Island" and "Sense and Sensibility" are the only PG titles on Saturday's schedule.
Tickets
Every seat costs $10.75 until 4 p.m., the theater's bargain matinee. After that, adult tickets are $14.75, and child, senior and military tickets are $11.75. All tickets are nonrefundable, and the theater says prices can change for specific films and showtimes can shift during holiday weeks. Closed captioning and descriptive listening devices are available.
The company
All of the chain's theaters are owned and operated by Entertainment Management Corp., based at 7 Central St. in South Easton. Swansea joins the company's Massachusetts theaters in Falmouth, Hyannis, Leominster, South Dennis and Sturbridge. It also runs Lebanon Luxury Cinemas in New Hampshire and a theater at The Shops at Clarks Pond in Maine.
A vote on the location's common victualler, entertainment and amusement license, for Entertainment Cinemas Swansea LLC, doing business as Entertainment Luxury Cinema, was set for the Swansea Board of Selectmen's meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
