Updated Oct. 18 with more detail.
WESTPORT Crews are scheduled to start paving the northern half of Sanford Road in Westport on Monday, Oct. 26, from Briggs Road to Route 6, according to an update the town posted Oct. 13. Drivers and people on foot may face delays, the town says.
The town's update says contractors were to mill the old pavement on that stretch during "the week of October 14th, continuing into the week of October 21st," as the town wrote it, with paving to follow. "Driveways will be addressed once Sanford Road paving operations are complete," the update says. "As always, construction dates are weather dependent."
What the project includes
The paving is part of the Sanford Road Pedestrian Safety Improvements project. The contractor was scheduled to begin Aug. 12 with preparatory work and new curbing from Briggs Road toward Dionne Street and Route 6, according to the town's road work page. A September update said utility pole relocation, digging and grading would continue on the east side of the road.
The town scheduled sidewalk paving on the west side of Sanford Road, from Briggs Road to Violet Avenue, for Oct. 2 to Oct. 16, followed by pedestrian ramps. Curbs were going in from Lassonde Street to Violet Avenue and from Christopher Drive to Route 6. Work to widen the pedestrian lane, upgrade drainage and grade the roadway was still going on ahead of the repaving, the page says.
Other town paving this year
Sanford Road is one piece of the town's 2026 roadway paving work. The same page scheduled milling to begin the week of Aug. 31 for overlays of Mouse Mill Road, Old County Road, Reed Road, Davis Road, Watuppa Road, N Drive and Benoit Street. Paving was set for Sept. 9 to Sept. 14 on all but N Drive, with line striping from Sept. 21.
The page also posts bids for the town's 2025/2026 roadway paving contract: P.J. Keating at $863,440, T. Miozzi LLC at $890,450, Daniel's Asphalt Services at $1,102,450 and J.H. Lynch at $1,122,450. The page does not say which bid the town accepted, whether that contract covers the Sanford Road work, or what the pedestrian safety project costs and how it is paid for. We could not find those figures in the town's posted pages or in the town administrator's reports to the Select Board this year.
Getting around, and who to call
The town asks drivers and walkers to find other routes during milling and paving, or to allow extra time and use caution in the work zone. Driveway access will be open most of the time during construction, the town says. Questions about the work go to the Westport Highway Surveyor's office, 820 Main Road, at (508) 636-1020 or highway@westport-ma.gov.

How we verified this
Every fact comes from the town's news post, its highway notices page and its highway department page, listed below. We read them on Oct. 18. The news post itself carries no date; the town's home page news list dates it Oct. 13. The milling dates were set before we read the post, so we report them as scheduled, not done. The town's posted pages and the 16 town administrator reports posted this year do not give the project's cost, funding source or contractor, so this story does not state them. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar and each claim against the pages. South Coast 360 sought comment Sunday from the Highway Surveyor's office; no reply yet.
