DIGHTON Dighton voters will meet for a Special Town Meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School auditorium, according to a town notice posted Oct. 7. The final warrant will be posted Oct. 22, the notice says.
A draft of the warrant is in the packet for the Board of Selectmen's Oct. 14 meeting. It would put up to $596,185 into the Capital Stabilization Account, up to $96,185 into the Stabilization Account and $50,000 into the trust fund for retirees' health care and life insurance benefits. Other draft articles include:
- $175,000 for design and construction-phase engineering on the Pleasant Street Bridge Replacement Project.
- $145,533.06 for the third and final lease payment on an ambulance.
- $138,000 for two cardiac monitors for the Fire Department.
- $73,000 for engineering and moving public safety antennas on the Elm Street water tank.
- $66,703 for a police administrative vehicle.
- $98,836.26 in two articles for dispatch software, $44,598.85 for Rapid SOS and $54,237.41 for Zetron.
A summary sheet in the packet lists $1,923,714 in available free cash, of which the draft articles would use $1,185,798.10. The sheet lists the town's ambulance fund, not free cash, as the source for the ambulance lease, the cardiac monitors and part of the dispatch software. The packet's agenda listed items to add the antenna article, which is in the draft, to remove an article on a state law about police department organization, and to close the warrant. We found no posted minutes from that meeting, so the final warrant may differ.
Dighton's Local Hazard Mitigation Planning Team will hold a public meeting Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 1111 Somerset Ave., according to a town notice posted Oct. 8. Regional planners will lead a discussion with residents about storm damage and hazard risks as the town updates its plan.

How we verified this
Every fact comes from two town News Flash notices and the Board of Selectmen's Oct. 14 agenda and packet, listed below. We read them on Oct. 18. The draft warrant is a scanned document with a DRAFT watermark, so we checked each dollar amount against the page images, and the free cash items add up to the $1,185,798.10 the summary sheet shows. The draft is not the final warrant, which the town says it will post Oct. 22; we will recheck this story against it. We checked the weekdays against a calendar. Not heard: no one was contacted.
