WAREHAM East Bridgewater had not won a football game since Sept. 24, and on Friday night it ended that run at home, beating Wareham 32-22 in a nonleague meeting of two teams that both go by the Vikings at East Bridgewater Jr-Sr High School.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for East Bridgewater (2-7) and was its first at home this fall, after losses on its own field to Rockland, Middleborough and Blue Hills. Wareham (3-6) has lost three in a row, and all three of its wins this season came on the road.
East Bridgewater's second-best scoring night
The 32 points were East Bridgewater's second-highest total of the season, behind the 36 it scored in a 56-36 league loss at Abington on Oct. 30, by our count. Its only other win was an 18-7 decision at Cardinal Spellman, and East Bridgewater has now scored 132 points and allowed 287 in nine games.
Wareham's 22 points were its most in any loss this season, topping the 18 it scored against Sharon, 12 at Cape Cod Tech, 8 against South Shore Tech and 6 against Stoughton, along with a shutout by Randolph. On the year, Wareham has scored 150 points and allowed 231.
A young East Bridgewater team
East Bridgewater started the fall with 30 players in grades 9 through 12 and one returning senior, after 14 seniors graduated from a 2025 team that made the playoffs, The Boston Globe reported in its preseason preview. Coach Greg O'Sullivan, in his third season, called the group "a super coachable group of young guys who want to get better," and the Globe named senior Nate Long and junior Tyler Pavidis as the players the program would look to as leaders.
O'Sullivan entered the fall with an 11-11 record from his first two years, including 5-6 last season, according to the Globe, and is now 13-18. Since the win at Cardinal Spellman, East Bridgewater had lost South Shore League games to Rockland, Norwell, Middleborough and Abington and a nonleague game to Blue Hills, and it is 0-4 in the league.
Wareham's season
Wareham, coached by alumnus Cy Bariteau in his third season, opened with a 20-14 win at Carver, then won at Upper Cape Tech 26-10 and at Atlantis Charter 38-0. Its losses came against Sharon, Randolph, Cape Cod Tech, South Shore Tech, Stoughton and now East Bridgewater, and Bariteau, who came into the fall at 9-13 after a 6-5 season in 2025, is now 12-19.
The Globe's preseason preview of Wareham started with its offensive line ("the foundation for success is on the line"), naming senior right guard Donovan Leonardi, a three-year starter, and noting that Amare Rose, also a three-year starter, was back at quarterback. "What we preach is our goal is to go 1-0 every week," Bariteau told the Globe before the season.
What comes next
Both teams play again on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. Wareham visits Bourne (1-7), which beat Holbrook 27-12 on Nov. 5 for its first win of the season, and East Bridgewater hosts West Bridgewater (4-5), which lost 28-8 at Tyngsborough in a playoff game Friday.
