FALL RIVER Fall River's Veterans Day Parade steps off at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, and the city is asking groups to register now.
The Department of Veterans Services invited veteran organizations, businesses, schools, civic groups, first responders and others to join in a news release dated Oct. 1. This year's theme is "A Legacy of Service: From Generation to Generation."
The release did not give the route or the staging location. The city said it will announce the grand marshal, ceremony schedule, honorees and route as Veterans Day approaches.
Who can take part
Marching groups, banners, decorated vehicles, floats, bands and color guards can register. Veterans who cannot walk the route are encouraged to take part, and the city asked organizations to consider vehicles that let older veterans and veterans with limited mobility join in.
How to register
Groups register through an online form linked in the city's release (PDF). The department asked for the organization's name, primary contact, approximate number of participants, type of entry, vehicle information if any, and any staging or accessibility needs. It asked groups to register as soon as possible. Instructions will go to registered participants before Veterans Day.
"Veterans Day should be a day when our veterans can look around their community and see that their service is remembered and appreciated," Veterans Services Director Talos Farris said in the release.
The department can be reached at 508-324-2432 or veterans@fallriverma.gov.

How we verified this
Every date, time and detail comes from the city's news release, listed below. We kept a dated copy, re-downloaded it Oct. 13 (identical file) and checked the city's press-release page for a route or grand marshal announcement; there was none. We recomputed the weekday by script. A first-pass AI check and a separate check that had not seen the story tested each claim against the release. A human editor approved the story. Not heard: no one was contacted. We did not open the registration form, because it collects data.
