Somerset Berkley soccer and field hockey go unbeaten for the week, Fairhaven volleyball goes 3-0: South Coast girls roundup

FALL RIVER Somerset Berkley's girls soccer and field hockey teams got through the week without a loss, and each now has the best record in its sport among the South Coast schools in this roundup, according to the schools' posted schedules. The soccer team beat Notre Dame Academy of Hingham 1-0 and GNB Voc-Tech 8-0 to reach 11-1-1. The field hockey team beat Seekonk 10-1 and Monomoy 4-0, and tied Uxbridge 5-5. Uxbridge is still unbeaten at 10-0-2.

This roundup collects every girls soccer, field hockey, volleyball and cross country result that 17 high schools in our 15 towns posted for Monday, Oct. 12, through Saturday, Oct. 17, plus unified basketball and cheer. The coming week puts the area's best field hockey record against one of the next best twice: Old Rochester (9-2-1) hosts Somerset Berkley on Monday, and the teams meet again Thursday in Somerset.

Fairhaven won all three of its matches, including a five-set win at West Bridgewater on Wednesday, and is 12-2. Old Rochester swept Apponequet and Hopkinton and has the most wins among South Coast teams at 13-2. Old Colony beat Cape Cod Tech 3-1 and then swept South Shore Tech, a 12-4 team, on Friday to reach 11-2.

Case went 1-1. It swept Dighton-Rehoboth on Wednesday and lost 3-1 at Dartmouth on Friday, leaving Case at 12-3 and Dartmouth at 11-4. Dartmouth had lost in five sets to Bridgewater-Raynham two days earlier, and Bridgewater-Raynham went five again Friday to beat Somerset Berkley. That was Somerset Berkley's second five-set loss of the week, after GNB Voc-Tech won in Somerset on Wednesday. Somerset Berkley is 9-7 and GNB Voc-Tech 8-6.

Westport and Wareham each went 2-0. Westport won at Avon and swept Atlantis Charter to reach 9-6, and Wareham won at Atlantis Charter and at Rising Tide to reach 6-9. Apponequet's 3-1 win over Bristol-Plymouth on Monday is its only win of the season. New Bedford swept Durfee before losing at home to Fairhaven, and Dighton-Rehoboth won in five sets at Bishop Stang. Diman's Friday match at Dighton-Rehoboth has no posted result on either school's schedule.

Girls cross country

Old Rochester ran its dual-meet record to 6-0 with a 15-50 win over GNB Voc-Tech on Wednesday, the best score possible in a sport where the low score wins. West Bridgewater edged Apponequet 27-28 the same day. Brockton beat New Bedford 23-39, Archbishop Williams beat Bishop Stang 17-41, Bourne beat Dighton-Rehoboth 15-50 and Norfolk Aggie beat Atlantis Charter 20-39. Dighton-Rehoboth's Thursday meet with Somerset Berkley is left out because both schools list it as a loss. Fairhaven, Case and Seekonk ran Wednesday at Case, with no scores posted. Swimming is a winter sport here: New Bedford, Durfee, Old Rochester and Apponequet list girls teams and Bishop Stang a coed team, with first meets posted for December and January.
