FREETOWN Freetown had 29 homes for sale on Thursday morning, up from 24 last Friday, after sellers listed five houses from Monday through Wednesday and a sixth home, listed in July, joined the count. Only one home on last week's count dropped off it.
Two of the new listings came in at the low end of the town's market. A two-bedroom house of 900 square feet went up Tuesday at $325,000, and a three-bedroom of 1,196 square feet was listed the same day at $390,000. They are now the least expensive homes for sale in Freetown. Also new were two three-bedroom houses near $600,000, listed Monday and Tuesday, and a four-bedroom house of 3,096 square feet listed Wednesday at $1.25 million.
What is for sale
Twenty-seven of the 29 listings were single-family houses, with a median asking price of $759,900, unchanged from last week, or about $333 a square foot. The typical house had three bedrooms and about 2,100 square feet. Two two- to four-family properties were also for sale, one of them a six-bedroom listed at $1,275,000.
Four houses were priced at $1 million or more, the highest a three-bedroom of 2,191 square feet at $1,299,000. Six were priced under $500,000. Listings here move faster than in much of the region, with a median age of 42 days, and only three had been up for 90 days or more.
One seller cut a price this week, taking $29,100 off a three-bedroom house last Friday to $649,900.
Sales and the monthly cost
The Massachusetts Association of Realtors counted 12 single-family sales in Freetown in September, up 140% from a year earlier, at a median price of $658,500, down 3%.
A buyer putting 20% down on a house at the median asking price would borrow $607,920. At the 7.24% average 30-year rate Freddie Mac reported Thursday, principal and interest would come to about $4,143 a month, about $33 less than at last week's 7.32% and about $431 more than at the 6.17% average a year ago. The new $325,000 listing, with the same 20% down, would cost about $1,772 a month in principal and interest.
At Freetown's fiscal 2026 residential rate of $9.78 per $1,000 of value, a house assessed at the median asking price would owe about $7,432 a year in property tax, or about $619 a month. The average single-family bill last year was $5,501, on an average value of $562,426, according to the state Department of Revenue. The fiscal 2027 rate is not yet in the state's records.

Notes
Every listing figure comes from SC360's own count of homes for sale on Redfin and Movoto on Thursday morning, Oct. 29, compared with the same count last Friday, Oct. 23. September sales come from the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, the rate from Freddie Mac's Oct. 29 survey and tax figures from the state Department of Revenue. We read them on Oct. 29. Payment and tax figures are our arithmetic: principal and interest only, and the tax on a house assessed at the median asking price. We checked each date and weekday against a calendar.
